Honda Cars India crosses 2 lakh exports landmark

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has announced that it has shipped over 2 lakh cumulative units from the country to overseas markets. The more recent Honda exports from India include the Elevate SUV and City sedan. These units are shipped to markets in the Middle East, Mexico, South Africa, and even Honda’s home territory, Japan. The automaker remains dedicated to enhancing its manufacturing facilities in India as a part of the Make-in-India initiative.

Honda City and Elevate make up most of the exports

Over the years, Honda has exported its made-in-India offerings to 33 countries around the world. Its home territory, Japan, is the biggest market, accounting for 30% of the exports. 26% of the exports have been shipped to South Africa and SADC countries. Mexico and Turkey account for 19% and 16% of the shipments, respectively. The Middle East, SAARC region, Caribbean, and South America make up the remaining 9%.

Honda’s export operations in India began with shipping locally manufactured units to neighbouring markets. The first batch of 50,000 units was exported to SAARC countries, South Africa, and SADC countries till 2021. In the next phase, the automaker exported 50,000 units in the following 2.5 years to markets with Left Hand Drive system. These included Mexico, Turkey, and the Middle East.

In the next 2 years, Honda has massively ‘elevated’ its manufacturing numbers, reaching 1 lakh exports in just 2 years. This is largely due to the rise in demand for the automaker’s new midsize SUV, Elevate, in markets in South America, Japan, and the Caribbean nations.

Honda City and Elevate make up 78% of the automaker’s exports from India. The remaining 22% share belongs to models like Brio, Amaze, Jazz, BR-V, Mobilio, City e:HEV, Accord, and CR-V. Some of these cars are no longer sold in India.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., said, “Achieving 200,000 export units fills Honda Cars India with immense pride. This milestone underscores the global recognition of our India-made cars. It also reflects the dedication of our skilled teams and robust manufacturing capabilities. Exports are an integral part of HCIL’s business and revenue strategy, and we remain committed to strengthening this area going forward. We are dedicated to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, serving both our domestic market and global customers.”
