Honda 0 α: Here’s what you need to know about Honda’s next-gen SUV

Honda 0 α borrows design elements from the Honda 0 SUV. Honda calls it the ‘Thin, Light, and Wise’ design language. The shut-off grille up front features an illuminated Honda logo and minimal LED headlamps and DRLs. The grille also houses the charging port. The profile features thick body cladding and muscular wheel arches. The SUV rests on 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels. The rear windscreen is almost vertical and is integrated with U-shaped lighting that combines the tail lamps, backup lamps and turn signal lamps.

No details have emerged about the interior of Honda’s new SUV yet. The automaker has confirmed that the 0 α will have a wheelbase spanning up to 2,800mm, resulting in a roomy interior space. The upright rear profile suggests a large boot space. Expect Honda to deck the upcoming electric SUV with premium features like twin displays for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a voice-controlled panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, connected car tech, an ADAS package, and more.

Honda has also kept a tight lid on the 0 α’s powertrain specs. The electric SUV is expected to come in 2 battery pack sizes. Going by the current EV trends in the midsize SUV market, the 0 α could be offered in 65kWh and 75kWh battery sizes. It will be powered by a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. No dual-motor AWD variants are expected as of now.

As mentioned earlier, the Honda 0 α will go into production in India and Japan in 2027. It will be launched in both markets the same year. The 0 SUV will reach India next year. It will be imported as a Completely Built Up (CBU) unit. Consequently, it will come with a premium price tag.

Final Thoughts

We expect Honda to begin road testing the 0 α in India and Japan by the end of 2026. It could be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh in India. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV in India.
