The BYD Atto 1 has been launched in Thailand at a starting price of 429,900 baht (~ Rs 12.40 lakh). The launch took place at the ongoing Bangkok Motor Show. The electric hatchback comes in 2 variants – Dynamic and Premium. BYD’s smallest EV yet, the Atto 1 also goes by ‘Seagull’ and ‘Dolphin Surf’ in foreign markets. It remains to be seen whether the Chinese automaker will bring the Atto 1 to India.

The BYD Atto 1 stands at dimensions of 3,925mm x 1,720mm x 1,590mm and has a 2,500mm wheelbase. Its front fascia features sharp LED headlamps with integrated DRLs. The BYD lettering is present on the shut-off grille. The front bumper has a small air dam. Along the sides, the prominent character lines give the electric hatchback a sporty look. The black garnish on the rear pillar produces the effect of a floating roof. The 15-inch alloy wheels have a beehive-themed design. At the back, the EV gets a sporty roof spoiler and peppy LED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar.
Inside, the BYD Atto 1 features a dual-tone black and grey colour theme. It is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include rain-sensing wipers, synthetic leather seats, a rear-view camera, an air purifier, a 4-speaker system with karaoke, wireless charging, intelligent power on/off, NFC car key, and more.
On the safety front, the BYD Atto 1 gets 6 airbags, rear parking sensor, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX anchorages, Traction Control System (TCS), ABS with EBD, auto-hold, and ADAS functions like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Assist (LDA), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and more as standard features across both variants. The top-spec Premium variant gets a 360-degree camera instead of a rear-view camera.
Both variants of the BYD Atto 1 are powered by a front-mounted Permanent Synchronous Motor. The entry-level Dynamic variant produces a maximum power output of 74hp and 175Nm of torque. It can go from 0-100km/h in 11.1 seconds. This variant is equipped with a 30kWh battery pack. On a full charge, it offers a 220km driving range. A 65kW DC fast charger can charge this battery pack to 100% in 3.5 hours.
The Premium variant generates a maximum power output of 154hp and 220Nm torque. It can go from 0-100km/h in 9.1 seconds. This variant is equipped with a 43.2kWh battery pack. On a full charge, it offers a 310km driving range. An 85kW DC fast charger can fully charge it in 5 hours.

As mentioned earlier, it remains to be seen whether BYD will bring the Atto 1 to India. If launched, it will rival the Tata Punch EV, MG Windsor EV, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and Citroen eC3.
